Week #42 - Tender Mercies & Heart Breaks

A Postcard of a Street in Pickering - in Black & White

This week we have been knocking doors and oh man, I love tracting with a passion, haha!

It can be so discouraging after so many people say no. Each time we try to think of a different way to approach, we have scanned through as many people as we can to see if there is any one searching but it has come down to persuasion. What's nice about the cold is that sometimes they let us in, or they'll crack the door so they don't get cold and we can talk then.

This week has been a high of good and bad.

Saturday we were tracting by the lake with the biggest homes! As we were leaving a home we saw four men that came back from fishing.  We went over and started talking to them.  When they knew the message was coming they began to leave in a hurry. I jumped in and said hey, "Before you go what are your beliefs in Jesus Christ?"  One of them said no... and kinda laughed.  He wasn't about to talk about it and I felt kinda of awkward because we knew it was sensitive.  Then he said, "Kiddo you have no idea, I'm a fire fighter and the things I've seen" then before I could say anything he said, "Why would a loving God take my wife and leave me with 3 kids" and then he made his way to his car. I felt a strange feeling of hurt. Oh it hurt. At this point I was crying and I went up to the door of his truck and said, "You will see your wife again. You can be with your family for time and all eternity". And he said "I hope your right!" and closed the door and was off with his friends.

We then ran into a women named Inge from Germany! Since I've been on my mission I've had so much interest in Germany and have met so many wonderful people from there.

During church yesterday we had some one we have been teaching who messaged us and say that he no longer wants to be taught and he doesn't want to be baptized. That broke my heart.

A few weeks ago when tons of snow came we went and shoveled drive ways.  We came in contact with someone named Louie from Nigeria and he accepted a Book of Mormon. We dropped by his home Satuday night to see if he had been reading and his wife answered, she wasn't sure and then said, "Yeah! He's been reading that book!" She let us in and we taught her and her 2 children about the restoration. The children were so sweet! Their names are Aaron and Hallelujah, but she goes by Angie.  They are both below the age of 10. They pulled this table in front of us and ran into the kitchen and got us cookies and then they gave us a Sprite.  They were so interested and Aaron raised his hand and asked if he could have a Book, his mom said, "No, we have one" then he responded, "I love to read it". My HEART felt soooooo happy I can't even explain!!!

Sister Clark messaged me today and HOLY!! Kingston is on FIRE! I talked to my President to see if I could stay in contact with Lionel and Michael and he said yes!! I've been able to say prayers with Lionel at night, and will send messages of enlightment and scriptures to Michael. Lionel has been reading and praying every day preparing for baptism, Mary has read over 200 pages of the Book of Mormon, Shirley after many years of loving her church wants to leave and is coming to our church Sunday. Prayers are answered to the righteous!!

Mosiah 27:14
"And again, the angel said: Behold, the Lord hath heard the prayers of his people, and also the prayers of his servant, Alma, who is thy father; for he has prayed with much faith concerning thee that thou mightest be brought to the knowledge of the truth; therefore, for this purpose have I come to convince thee of the power and authority of God, that the prayers of his servants might be answered according to their faith."

I am grateful for my Savior, I love him so very much. I am blessed beyond anything!! This love and joy is nothing but pure happiness.

Love you all!
Sister Rees
